Destined to be
an Electric Co-op Children's Classic

Wish Upon a Crawdad takes place at the end of the Great Depression (1940), during the early years of the electrification of rural America. The story is told through the eyes of 12-year-old Ruby Mae Ryan who lives on her family's farm in Oregon. Ruby's longtime wish has been to get electricity. She's never had it a day in her life--no one in the valley has--so her family joins the recently formed electric co-op and helps bring electricity to their valley. Now, with electricity finally on its way, Ruby has another wish, and she's working hard to make it come true by the time electricity arrives.

In the Press

“Curtis W. Condon weaves a lovely story rich with unique local flavor, packed with colloquialisms and era-specific language, and full of the hope and encouragement that middle-grade readers need . . .
I would recommend it to readers who enjoy gentle classics like Anne of Green Gables and Little Women.”
